The lemon detox diet is all the rage in New Zealand health circles these days. Promising weight loss and detoxification, the lemon detox diet is a 10 to 14 day diet using lemon juice, water, cayenne pepper and a syrup additive as the only source of nutrition for this period. Essentially, it is a starvation diet. Severe calorie restriction and a lack of nutrition is the cornerstone of the lemon detox diet, despite claims that it is a miraculous weight loss and body cleansing program.
The concern with the lemon detox diet is that it starves the body of vital nutrition.
